Travelling to LA
My kid sister is having a wedding tomorrow, so we're flying out today to witness the event.
I'm wrapping up a project at work, so I planned to leave early anyway. I had a meeting that ended at my deadline, but during which they were insistent that I complete a few minor tasks and make sure that everything is checked into source control.
I scurried about and got it done. They expected me to take a couple more hours to do the work (did I not mention I had to catch a flight? Sheesh.), and were surprised when the list of things was done in minutes instead. I noted that I am an expert at this, and had they given me such specifications to begin with, the work itself would have been done faster and closer to what they wanted.
They suck with the specifications.
"Jeff, could you turn this ASP into JSP using Struts for us? No hurry. Thanks."
That was the bulk of the requirements I was given. I had planned to leave by 2:00, but took off at 2:30. The plane was scheduled to depart at 5:00, and I had to travel across town twice, once home, once almost all the way back to the office, to get to the airport. Now in pre-rush-hour traffic.
We made the flight, getting to the gate just as they started loading the plane. Our seats were the very last row, so we got on first, and relaxed as much as we could. I barely fit in the seats on most planes. Never mind the extra girth I've added over the years, I'm 6-foot-zero, and the length of my leg, from the back of my ass to my knee, is just as long as the seatback-to-seatback distance. I seldom enjoy coach. Didn't even when I was skinny.
We arrived on time in LA, and got to the rental place to get our mini-van. We travelled with my uncle and aunt, who are the other remaining Warrens in the area (the rest relocating to California). We stopped for a bite at an In-and-Out Burger, 'cause the girl child wanted some local food... Then off to Ventura, where the family lives. The travels were uneventful. We dropped them off, chatted with the greeting party (dad and sis and bro and his girlfriend all stopped by grandma's to greet us), and headed off to the hotel room.
One day down.
