Day Thirty-Six - Beautiful Sunny Day
It's a pretty normal Wednesday in terms of work and school and things inside. It's 70°F and sunny outside.
I did a little bit of work outside, but it got hard to see on my tablet or laptop, and I started to get a little warm in my long-sleeve shirt. Great problems to have, for sure.
The little little has been playing outside almost all day, with almost no difficulty. Both of the kids took a tour around the yards nearby, looking to find litter to clean up for Earth Day. They found a bunch of wind-blown and people-dropped things, especially in the alley. And we took a little break to take the dogs for a little walk. We took both dogs, so the walk was short, as the younger dog is not very good on the leash, and while the older dog is, she pulled a lot more than usual to compete with the younger dog.
On our walk, we ran into our neighbor a few doors down. We usually see her as we both pass between garages and homes, and give a "how do" and wave, and that's about it. When her husband was still alive, they would stop by now and again to check in on us nice young people, talk about yard work, and ask computer questions. They were both retired engineer types, and liked the technical gabbing. Since he passed, like nine years ago, we don't see her out as much. I think she joins in the block parties, especially the ones where the women gather at someone's house for a tip of wine. She mentioned she was surprised we hadn't escaped to Hawaii for all of this. Of course I agreed. She's having a little work done on her house, so there are people around. We were politely rude and continued with our walk before too long. Social distancing isn't great for running into infrequently visited neighbors.
The kids would like to go for a bike ride, and we probably will as the workday ends, but with the other outside activities and dog walk, they're also hiding inside where it isn't as blindingly bright. I think the few hours spent outside, and the fact that the little little hasn't napped yet, might give us a little bit of a rough evening, but an easier bedtime. Knocking on wood.
While outside, I took a moment to spread some pesticide to curb some visitors before it became an all-out invasion. Between that and all of the brightness, and some of the springtime allergens, I'm sure, I've developed something of a headache. While I was in the garage looking for the tools to spread the pesticide, I noticed that our little cache of toilet paper had been used by little critters, probably to make nests or a soft bed. So I brought that inside. I was a little nervous of what the neighbors would think as I hugged this six-pack of six-packs across the yard.
Except for my pesticide and allergy headache, everyone seems well. It's early yet. And we've got a few days to be more mindful now that three of us have interacted with a new person, who we've seen interacting with numerous other people. This is how we get it...something simple like this, not necessarily this in particular.
