Day Fifty-Four - Mother's Day
We've had a birthday and now Mother's Day with social distancing.
Mostly it was just a Sunday at our house. A little cold for stuff outside, still. Some rain over night made everything wet and muddy, too.
After lunch, while little little took a nap, I ran some stuff over to the wife's mom. They had discussed and agreed it might be frustrating if the missus went, so I took some Mother's day stuff for her. At least she came out on the deck to chat, which she hadn't done when the wife visited previously. I had a mask (that she'd made and mailed to us), and we stayed apart, passing a box of goods by putting it on her deck table.
The box contained some beets and projects the kids made her. It also contained an attempt to connect easier, an Amazon Echo Show. She liked the beets and projects, but rejected the Echo straight out, and made me take it home with just the barest of discussions of how she doesn't want attempts to make being apart made easy. Nor did she want any more updated tech junk that she didn't want to learn how to make work anyway.
I get it, and would rather end the staying apart, too. This is our current reality, though, and especially since she's in the most at-risk age group, will be our reality until "cure" is found. We're making everything work with video to continue working and to stay in contact with friends. Even without this separation, it's a nice improvement over voice telephone anyway. We should have known...we did know...she has rebuffed most of the attempts to update her technology. Smart phones, new computer (like 10 years ago), even an LCD TV, all met with resistance or outright rejection.
On the way home I made a stop for some drive-thru chicken, since grilling or cooking was going to run us out of time. After dinner, we gave mom a couple of gifts to thank her for being such a super mom, mostly with a Super Mom theme. Easy bedtime after a viewing of the 1999 My Favorite Martian. The kids resisted initially, but found it hilarious and the right kind of scary. Good times.
Everyone is healthy.
