Day 176 - School Looms
We’re just a few days away from the return of school for our 4th grader and pre-schooler. The virus hasn’t been cured. This isn’t going to be easy.
The schools are starting virtual, to get the systems down and get everyone used to it. Also to watch and see what happens in the schools that start hybrid or full-time.
We’re approaching it a little differently for each kid, given the differences in their school, and scholastic history.
For the younger, the whole social bits matter. The class sizes are smaller, and the school smaller over all. We’re taking a half-day all week option, and hoping that helps him develop those early school skills.
For the older, we’re looking for a half-week half-day hybrid option, if things go well in the first month.
The district is conservative and (so far) transparent enough that we think we’ll have good information moving into the school year.
Work is supportive, and understands this is happening to all of its office workers with family. We‘re taking a “family first” approach, and have support of leadership to adjust our workdays, as teams, to try to accommodate all of the variations.
Fingers are crossed.
Everyone’s healthy.
