Day 394 - Snow
Today is a typical mid-April day. Freezing temperatures and snow today. After summer-like days, where the grass started growing and the trees started blooming.
We've been given reminders by Google that our pictures from last year and the year before have had appreciable snow accumulation on these mid-April days. We've also been shown the summer-like days where we've been to the baseball field in shorts and t-shirts because it's been, well, summer-like. Today isn't supposed to accumulate near us, but might just a little farther north. Hopefully that bit of forecast sticks, because the promise of a summer-like weekend didn't.
Baseball is going on, and we still have tickets, but we're opting to not go. Both because of the unexpected weather, but also because of the pandemic. We were given an option to have our regular seats for all of the games, or attempt to get single-game tickets, using the fee we paid as a fund pool. The first round of single-game tickets went like wildfire. While we weren't trying to get any right away, we tried to get some for one of our seat partners, but they were gone too fast.
Seeing the games on television makes it seem like they're taking the social distancing and pandemic measures seriously, while still allowing people to visit. The couples and small groups of people are separated from other couples and groups by rows and chunks of chairs. It doesn't look exactly empty, but it certainly isn't full. Everyone seems to be wearing a mask, or generally eating or drinking. I miss going to the games, but with the pandemic, weather, and kids all wrapping together, and the fact that they've all been (work and school interrupting) day games, has made the season so far difficult to have done anyway.
I do get to watch the games, though. As part of our season ticket package, we get MLB.tv for free. Unfortunately, our home team is blacked-out. Fortunately, my work PC uses a perpetual VPN through another city, so my connection seems outside the blackout area. Now I can watch all of the games until my team plays a team in that city and their opponent gets blacked-out.
I bring these two things together because there's a game about to start, and it started snowing a little while ago.
April snow baseball!
Everyone is healthy.
