Day 733 - Spring Is Here
The temperature looks like spring, but all of the mud and dirt and leafless trees look like some dark times in a medieval or apocalyptic movie.
The vernal equinox passed earlier today. This marks the first day of spring, or about mid-way between the peak of winter and summer. The days are getting longer, with the sun rising earlier and setting later.
There's buzz about that, too. It seems there's a move to make Daylight Savings time permanent. I'm all for getting rid of the clock switching, but I'm firmly in the "keep standard time" camp. We've all agreed to UTC, and when you count over a number of timezones, that should be your offset. Not that but off by one because you're in the US, or following the US.
The few grumbles and grumble repeaters I've seen all go on about the start of school or work, and how it's dark and unfriendly. I say we change the start of work and school instead. Let's not put kids on busses at 7AM, but make that be 8AM. And since we've shifted everyone's kid time, let's shift everyone's work time, so instead of making it in by 9, that could be 10.
Sure, that maybe puts dinner off, so maybe instead of shuffling like that, let's make workdays shorter, too. There isn't that much more I can do in an 8-hour day than I can put into a little more thoughtful 6 hour day. Or realize that since so many of us are still working from home, many of us have shifted the start of our workdays to a few minutes after the kids are away. I don't start at 9, after my commute, but closer to 7:30, after making coffee after the kids are gone.
And with all of that...we have electric lights in our homes, offices, and on our cars. The dark shouldn't be our obstacle. At the same time, I do have a 10K lumens lamp that I let brighten my morning most days during the dark seasons.
Of course, I'll have to roll with whatever they decide. If they decide on Daylight Savings forever, I'll also roll my eyes.
Everyone's healthy.
