Day 768 - Summer Today
Today was a beautiful low 70s day, in the middle of the day, between windy rainstorms.
We spent our summer day at the park with friends celebrating one of our little little's friend's birthday. Dozens of little kids running around the park, all there to enjoy the day. Parents, too. Some of us were parents enjoying the day together.
We hesitated and cringed a little, since we've just passed through our first week since our COVID tests turned positive. There's a 5-day isolation, but still a 10-day period of care, as recommended by the CDC. I checked with other parents, and their thoughts were along the lines of "we're all outside" (except for the cake part of the party, which was in a big room) or "the kids are all together at school anyway" (except for they wear masks at school, and no one was at the park). I was very in front of it with everyone, and we shared our "few to no symptoms," and "everyone feels fine, and did so throughout the whole thing, save some congestion and phlegm." We'll see if that turns into a spreader event, and if so, it was probably us. Or maybe one of the other afflicted kids from the school.
It rained in the morning before the party, but stopped in plenty of time for the park to dry out. A few standing puddles in the dips on the sidewalks and ball fields, but not in the park itself. It did rain for a few moments during the party, but it simply gave an excuse to dash inside and do some cake. All the kids took a snack and drink and sat down. That rousing "Happy Birthday" song was sung, and then cake distributed. Mine was a little disappointed when he came to me to help him with a juice, and some other kid took his seat. He ended up in a sweet seat near the cake, but that table ended up getting served last. He was a little bummed about that, but then they gave him a bigger piece for being so patient and nearly last. Big enough that he couldn't finish it.
We were in the last group to leave, after all but the final four other families went their ways. We shut down the little kid birthday party and went home, excited and happy to have spent the whole day outside at the park.
The weather turned not too long after we got home. Heavy winds, and occasional light rain. The temperature is dropping, and while it was so summer-like today, it's going to be back in the cold spring days for a while ahead.
Everyone's healthy, with some lingering coughs and congestion.
