Day 822 - Camping Trip
Setting off for a weekend camping trip with friends to kick off the summer!
The kids have had a week-long break between school and their normal summer program. Before they return to their regular summer program, we're going camping with friends.
The plan is to leave shortly to pick up the big little at her dog training camp. They're having a demonstration day, where the kids and their dogs will show some of the training they've done this week. We're bringing the other dog (the one that didn't go to camp), and will drop the dogs off at the dog sitter's on the way home. Then we'll pack the trailer and Jeep, hitching them together, and we'll go get the little little from his sports camp, and head off to the woods for the weekend.
The best-laid plans, right?
Most of the things are packed. Most of the packed things are in the garage waiting to be transferred to the right vehicle. Many of the things that can go in the trailer already are, but some of that might need reloading for weight distribution. We usually pack so much stuff that our little trailer is full, but we're trying less this time. Our campsite has a shelter, so we don't need our canopy to hide from rain when we cook or eat. We're going to forego the cots, and sleep just on the air mattresses, like savages. We're also not bringing bikes (they don't get used) or so many entertainments (so many toys move back and forth and don't get taken from the trailer). There's just a little too much to be in the Jeep alone, so if this works out, we might be able to replace the trailer with one of those trailer-hitch cargo carriers.
I'm just waiting for instructions, getting the little chores done to leave the house empty. We've made the appropriate notices to neighbors and friends who live nearby who can peek in. The doorbell cameras and internal sensors will let us know if things go awry or unwanted visitors come. We don't want to come home to whatever might be attracted to dirty dishes or week-old trash, though.
It's supposed to be dry all weekend, but run a risk of getting hot. It's kind of hot today, but it could be another 10-20°F warmer over the weekend. I gotta move stuff and shut other stuff off, including my desktop.
Everyone's healthy.
