Day 827 - First Day of Summer
It's the estival solstice, or summer solstice, sometime today. The Earth is tilted with its northern hemisphere most toward the sun. Hitting the top of the figure-8 on globes, if you happen to have one.
Yesterday was hot as all get out, hitting over 100°F on a bunch of thermometers. We mostly hid inside. The kids were at school, hiding inside. The wife worked from home, inside. I had Juneenth off, but stayed inside. After I fetched the kids, we stayed inside.
I thought I could suffer outside long enough to grill some burgers and dogs, maybe even without turning on the gas, but the grill wouldn't stay lit. It's a fresh tank of propane, and the gauge read plenty of green, Maybe it was too hot and wouldn't flow. I've been having trouble keeping all the burners on, so there's probably some overdue maintenance, too.
Today has been a return to work. Just sitting inside in Zoom meetings, thinking about the other things I should be typing while I listen to others plan. I'm a bit behind in some of the promotion stuff I should be working in, including making internal job postings for some engineers I know who would like to try to join my team and be promoted that way. So much work, so many meetings instead.
I'm stalling now between my last meeting and fetching the kids. I thought I'd make note of the solstice, so here it is.
Everyone's healthy.
