Rain, Rain, Go Away
It rained a lot yesterday. It looks likely to rain a lot today. Might rain tomorrow.
We were warned over the super-hot weekend that relief was coming on Monday, but in the form of a few days of occasional heavy rain. We got cooler weather with little spots of rain on Monday and Tuesday, and the deluges began yesterday.
Yesterday, I helped my fried fetch his motorcycle from the shop. He asked on Tuesday, and I agreed, and we planed to roll a frequently suggested but infrequently occurring lunch, too. The forecast had rain in the afternoon, but we're seasoned riders, and a little rain isn't so bad for a few mile trip from the shop to home. I fetched him and the rain would fall in fits and starts, never quite stopping, and only small mounts of heavy rain. We had a great lunch, catching up and eating healthier salads. We waited until a lull in the heavy rain to head to the shop just a short drive away. We looked at some shiny new and used bikes, and wished and wanted a bit. As he settled the bill, really heavy rain started again. We looked at more bikes and got some details from a sales guy as we admired some of them. Another slight relief from heavy rain happened, so I suggested now might be a good time to bolt. I took off in my Jeep and my pal headed back to the shop to put on his rain gear and head home. I only got a mile away when the heaviest downpour hit. I sent him a message that he might want to wait, because if it wasn't there yet, the car wash strength rain was just a mile down the road. Eventually we reached our respective homes, reacted to the flash flood warnings, and amused ourselves with funny rain texts.
Today, I had to dash to give a battery charge and jump start to my brother's car. He lives with my mom about 90-minutes away. I left about an hour later than I wanted, but made good time. I left in the rain, dropping the kiddo at his all-day thing on the way, but the rain stopped about a half-hour from the end of my drive. A bit of a relief as we stood in the driveway charging and starting his car. I would have liked to stay and chat a bit, as he always stays in his spaces when I visit every other week, but that hour longer in the morning ate any free time I had, as we had tickets for the baseball game at noon. I said my quick farewells and dashed home. I drove into some light rain again, and was met by the wife who speculated the game was going to be delayed. We checked the weather radar, and (not quite) the whole west half of the state has rain heading our way, and the forecast suggested heavy rains until about 6PM. There was a note on X.com about the tarp still being on the field, and an anticipation of a delayed start, although it wasn't official. yet. We decided to stay home and see if they would start later. I ran a quick run to the pet store for some dog pill pockets, and beat the heavy rain back home, but they announced the rain delay while listened to the pre-game on the radio.
We're waiting to see what will happen with the game. The noon games are great because they'll finish before we have to pick kiddo up from his day camp thing. If the forecast. holds, they won't start until 5PM or later, which puts us right in kiddo pick-up, traffic, and dinner time, any of which can change the dynamic of who goes to the game and how much it stays enjoyable.
I'm glad the grass is green. I lament that I should have done more to have my yard garden going, and my garage construction lawn rebuilding done by now. But it is what it is.
