Adventure Marshall Islands - Day 24
Monday, June 13
Today we have nothing planned, and hope to make it another lazy day. They're easy to do, especially when it's so hot and there aren't any appointments.
We started out slow, eating pancakes in the restaurant. Just to break the pattern, we decided to hang-out in the restaurant a little bit, taking advantage of the relatively more comfortable chairs, and the fact they have tables. I ran up to the room to grab the Mac, and Claire, during a return to the room to change Grace, grabbed her book. We drank some extra coffee, and I typed a little bit on my lagging journal.
We had a welcome, but unexpected drop-in by our birthmother! She shyly came alone into the restaurant, and came over to visit. She was all smiles and seemed happy to see us. We invited her to sit at our table and let her hold and visit with Grace. Through the helpful staff there, we invited her to order something to drink or eat, which she did. She picked at the fried chicken dish she ordered, and gulped a Mountain Dew. We smiled and gestured at each other, and passed Grace back and forth as she seemed to be more or less fussy. When she got a little fussy, she got passed to one of us, and when she was settled again, she was happily accepted back. After a while, our birthmother had to go, and took the rest of her lunch in a box. We managed to confirm that tomorrow at 2PM we'd be visiting her place, and she was off.
We returned to our room, and the other adopting mother stopped by to help Claire sort some gifts for the family when we visit tomorrow. We had some indication that there were other people in the house before we left home, but hadn't been given a very good idea of their numbers or ages or genders or likes or, well, anything. We've gleaned a little bit while interacting with our birthmother or bubu, but were still concerned that something got lost in translation.
After that Claire was feeling a little restless. Grace was sleeping, so I offered to stay with her while Claire got out and about. Shortly after she left, Grace woke up and wanted to be coddled and cooed the rest of the day. Although I'd broken the Mac out again, I didn't get but a few spare moments to try to get some work started, but I'd rather play with Grace anyway.
Claire came back after a few hours, with a bundle of things from the gift shops, and Grace's “yellow card” immunization records! It seems that Dr. Pinano's office was open when she and the other adopting mother drove by. The good doctor was busy, but his aide looked in his desk and found it sitting right there, on top of everything else. It showed that she had a couple of things done at birth, but nothing since! She's due for some things like polio and hepatitis, but after a consult with Claire's mom (or rather via her mom, to someone at the hospital where she works), we decided to wait until we return to have anything done.
Having had a good time out, the moms had decided that they wanted to have dinner at the hotel, so after Claire showed me the stuff she'd picked up, and told me about her adventures, we went to the restaurant. Claire and I decided to split a small pizza, since they had mozzarella cheese. We also split a cheese cake. They're short on ice cream, so while we've been hoping to have the restaurant's special fried banana sundae again, we've been out of luck. Just as we got close to done with dessert, the other mother's boy got a little tired, so we said our good-nights and returned to our respective rooms.
Grace, as usual, was pretty much unconscious by then, and tucked in without episodes. We turned on The Big Bang Theory, and watched four episodes, finishing the first disk of the first season. Hilarious, as always!
