Adventure Marshall Islands - Day 13
Thursday, June 2
Got up today with the ambitious plan of having banana pancakes. After that, the rest of the day was going to be played by ear.
We'd heard from the other adopting mother that they had the hotel restaurant's banana pancakes the day before, and that they were really good, so we thought we'd give them a try. Usually what I've been having for breakfast is the island special, your typical eggs, cakes, hash-brown potatoes, and meat.
Today, there are no bananas for the pancakes. Island special it is. While we ate, we were visited by the other family, who had been wandering at the beach looking for shells. The schoolgirl lamented that the bracelet she and Claire had put together was broken. It seems the clasp had come loose. We suggested she grab it and meet us in the room. She did.
In addition to fixing the bracelet clasp, they put together a few more beads. Grace watched from the sofa while I fed her. Grace fell asleep just as the girls got done with their beading. Other dad came to fetch the schoolgirl, and said they were going to make a trip around to the grocery and maybe some other shops and invited us along. I declined, citing a just fallen asleep Grace, but Claire accepted and took off for a day away.
Grace sleep at hotel basically all day, at least the whole time Claire was out shopping. After a few hours, Claire returned with a couple bags of groceries. We padded around the room for a bit, and retired to the restaurant for a kind of going away dinner.
The other dad and schoolgirl are reaching the end of their visit. She's got some events she wants to partake, like t-ball, and he starts his summer lobster season at the end of May, so with court done, and the waiting beginning, they're going to return, leaving mom and new baby boy behind to wait.
We went downstairs to the fare-thee-well dinner, and were met by the family from the other hotel, too. We sampled a fairly local beer, Spring Tide. It's actually from New Zealand, according to the label. It's a light lager, with a nice flavor. It immediately reminded me of Belikin, the national beer of Belize (the only one brewed there, anyway). I joke that Belikin is the best beer in the world, but that's only because the only place you can get it is in Belize. In reality, it's a little like Pacifico.
Everyone had a fun time, and after a bit of feeding and chattering, separated to our respective temporary abodes.
We tucked Grace in and settled on the sofa for another pair of episodes of Modern Family, and turned in ourselves.
