Day Twenty - Any Given Sunday
Today was about as ordinary of a Sunday as you could expect. The kids woke before dawn, made enough noise to wake everyone, but dad managed to fall asleep again.
By the time dad got up, everyone had been at their stations watching their tablets or laptops or what have you. There were danishes and coffee being served just then, too. After the little breakfast, everyone went back to their desks. And I settled into mine for a bit, but then wanted to stretch out a little more than the office allowed.
I turned on a few news things from the last week or so and had them on. The wife swung through while she tinkered in the kitchen, and then got mad because some of the advice was a little dated, and then got mad at me when I tried to say that they were from before the recent changes in suggestions. In particular, the doc at one point, after doing a pretty good job of talking about the brief history, symptoms, and the mechanisms and ease with which the virus spreads, made a statement about how “not everyone should be tested,” and “wearing a mask isn’t necessary unless you’re symptomatic.” Of course, that last has been reversed, and mask or other covering is recommended. Testing, though still remains difficult, and it isn’t the case that we can test everyone, just to check; the recommendation of testing people in certain roles and with symptoms remains, as far as the governor’s last talk, the guideline. I heard an earful like I made the mandate, and like I agreed with the video by defending it as coming from before the shift in mask use was declared. Sheesh.
The little little decided he wanted to nap on the couch, so we turned on something he’s seen a bunch, and he nodded off. I turned on something and he did drift away. So did I. I woke from my catnap first, and turned on something else I’ve seen, and dozed off again.
Before dinner we went for a bike ride around the neighborhood. We had a quick dinner, because despite the suggestion, little little hadn’t gone to the bathroom and peed in his pants. So he’s in the tub now, heading toward bed immediately following. Not a punishment, but just because it’s getting to be time.
The big little is on FaceTime with a school friend. We’ve been trying to prep her for first day of school tomorrow. They’ve been on a break, with a few “keep up” suggestions, which we’ve been horrible at keeping up with. The first two weeks were the initial social distancing, stay home, school closing, and this last week has been spring break. Parents don’t get spring break, though. Tomorrow is the first day of the new distance learning for the older. The younger has no similar program. We’ve laid out a few times how they’re going to send directions in the morning, which may include video chats and assignments, and that she’s going to have to participate in them. It’s probably going to break my day, too.
Everyone’s healthy. I’m a little grumpy, but I think it’s just allergies today; made me sleepy, and congested.
