Day Seventy-Four - Tension Saturday
We're staying close to home, because of virus and unrest.
There seemed to have been clashes throughout the night, but the biggest seemed to have been the bit near the 5th Precinct police station before I turned in. The day was filled with press conferences, but I couldn't watch. I tidied the house and played with the kids instead. Our dog area (we've trained them to poo in a generous, but isolated part of the yard) has been neglected with our non-essential call on mulch replacement, but I spent some time bagging that up.
The kids helped, and have been in good spirits. They've been turning down bike rides and dog walks, unless we agree to take them to the park to off-leash the dogs in the tennis courts. The dogs are acting badly, and while a good long walk might help straighten them out, neither of us is up to loading them in and out of the Jeep and playing with them in the park.
Before turning in, after the kids went to bed, I turned on the news again. Curfew was enforced more swiftly this time. At 8PM, the newscasters were showing peaceful demonstrations, with protesters sitting in and around some intersections. At 8:30, lines of police moved in and started dispersing the crowds. Their objective seemed to be simply to disrupt and deter the gatherings, by causing the groups to flee when confronted by masses of storm troopers. Again, there were smoke or tear gas grenades engaged.
The news people on the ground got caught in the melee, but seemed to suffer little more than some exposure. Especially those that stood in the crowds of protesters.
I went to bed before any real mayhem started.
Everyone is healthy.
