Day 415 - Cinco de Mayo
A day to celebrate anti-colonialism, after Mexico defeated the French in the battle of Puebla, in 1862.
It's also 05-05, one of the days that matches when doing dates right or wrong. Correctly, it should be 2021-05-05, but so many Americans cling to 05-05-2021, or even 5/5/2021. And I'll probably write 5 May 21, if I'm compelled to handwrite a date today, beyond this post.
As a kid, I thought today had something to do with Mexican independence. In that it won a battle in the war against France, yes, but Mexican Independence day is 16 September 1810, when they declared independence from Spain. I guess France thought they'd come in after to take over the new country; maybe a bit of overkill for debt collection.
Regardless, as a young adult, even with the misconception of independence and after learning that correction, it was all about tequila and margaritas and cerveza! Now, I mostly think maybe some enchilada for dinner. Or tacos for lunch.
Baseball practice later, so weirdly timed dinner plans, as we haven't quite got that all worked out yet. We'll see.
Everyone's healthy.
