Day 837 - Fisherman's Day
It's a big deal in the Marshall Islands.
The first Friday in July, the Marshall Islands celebrate back-to-back wins in a billfish contest in Hawaii, and also to mark the end of the fishing season.
We were there for Fisherman's Day in 2011, which was also 1 July, and it is a pretty big deal. Friday and Saturday shuts down everything. People pile into boats of every size and then set out to try to catch the biggest billfish (think marlin) they can. The winner in 2011 was like 620 pounds, outweighing the next place by almost 500 pounds!
Nothing otherwise new. Getting into our summer grind. It's hot, the kids go to their all-day programs, the adults work from home, we figure out dinner or events, repeat.
Everyone's healthy.
