Day 1083 - No Snowstorm
The kids have been mostly enjoying being home because of the impending storm. It is cold, and occasionally there are little flurries. But even counting the snowfall from yesterday, only a couple fluffy inches have fallen.
They did declare a snow emergency, so everyone pulled off the street, except that one car that always seems to miss out (and not notice they're alone on the street). That car got a ticket, and plowed around, so maybe a lesson will be learned for next time. I mean, the ticket would be annoying, but the big plow drift stuck in front of your house where you want to park is usually a pretty big pain.
The forecast has snow for the rest of the day, and checking the radar on weather.com makes it seem like it should be steadily snowing outside right now, but it isn't.
The kids spent some time doing their packets either sent with them yesterday or found online. There was much glee to get started from the little little, and boredom from the big little. This turned into raging ire from the little little as I struggled with the Spanish bits, while the big little started to sneak in social connections and avoided doing work. We've corrected and redirected and distracted.
Thankfully, and surely coincidentally, we've both had pretty low-density workdays, from a meeting perspective. I still have a lot of review writing to do, and am bouncing around in instant messaging, where most of our non-meeting interactions are. I'm also trying to figure out some solutions and plan the future work of one project, so there are things that keep me on my screens and not with the kids.
Oh, and I took a few minutes to tap this out.
The day is going swell. I'm hoping the snow just dumps out of the sky so that these two at-home days are worth the scares. I guess, it does help to keep all the traffic down, as teachers and staff and students do need to go from myriad homes to the schools. And then back again. There were lots of cars jammed up on the freeways as I passed to fetch boyo yesterday. There won't be teachers or students in any traffic today, at least not for school reasons, since everything has been cancelled.
Everyone is healthy.
