Back From Little Vacation
A couple months ago the wife decided to give some cabins "up north" a try, to see if we might like it during the summer.
We had hoped that all the kids and grandkids could join us, but that didn't work. Still, we went with the at-home kids, and our dogs. We didn't know that this weekend would be so fatally cold!
We got there late on Friday, and it was cold, so we were happy to check out the cabin and tuck in. Saturday was pretty cold, but we didn't grab any supplies on Friday, so we all went out for breakfast and a little shopping, including a Target run because the daughter somehow didn't think to pack socks or underwear. We also made a dinner run, but the temperature was a bit much, so with the doom forecast, we decided to stay in on Sunday. We did get to watch the Lions get ousted from the NFC playoffs, so there was that, too.
We hid in the cabin the whole day on Sunday, much to the wife's dismay. Because it was -21°F outside, with a pretty generous wind, the windchill made it feel even worse. She and the daughter went on a little mission to the nearby town, because she was going a little cabin crazy; who leaves their home to hide in a different building, right? I stayed with the disagreeable son and dogs. The dogs also got a little curious or cabin crazy, and really needed to poop, but every time I tried to take them out, all they wanted to do was get back inside. We braved the outside for dinner out, because we're on vacation and didn't want to cook. After, we cleaned and packed our bags to make our hasty exit in the morning, hoping to leave for a bit for breakfast, and return for the dogs and to pack the Jeep.
When we were checking the forecast on Sunday, it looked much warmer just the little bit more south that home is. As we drove, though, it seemed we dragged the super cold with us. It was a little warmer, but still many degrees below zero. The dogs, though, happy to be home, pooped in their normal spots, while we unpacked the car. Then everyone hid inside from the cold at home.
I poked around a bit at some of the news of the day, including the inauguration and celebrations. The laundry can wait until tomorrow.
