Day 754 - Dealer Closed Earlier
I took my time getting out of the house today, and had in my plan to get the Jeep looked at, and that's the only bit that didn't happen.
We started our Saturday as many do, with COVID tests. We have been testing weekly, making most weeks with regularity. Our clinic is changing, though, and the drive-through testing is switching to Monday-Wednesday-Friday after this weekend. We're discussing where to go instead, or if we need to continue.
The older kiddo has a birthday party to go to, so we spent more time than anticipated shopping together at a store. It is really the first time we had the whole family in a store at the same time. We had a short list of musts to get, and tried to make a quick path there, but got distracted looking at some clothes the kids have been outgrowing. While we have ordered some things for them as we've gone through this pandemic, we haven't done the usual spurt-following shopping we might do. Most of the little little's clothes are getting holes, or don't reach the ends of his limbs, or have stains enough that even he notices. The big little has been a little more careful, but she's got some things that are getting a little more snug than she's comfortable with.
After the long shopping trip, we grabbed some take-out lunch and made for home. A short while after that and some minor chores, I ducked out to hit the car dealer for a look-see at my fender-less Jeep. I checked on-line first, and their site said service was open for a few more hours. I anticipated having a consultation, maybe committing to service and ordering parts, and then return when the parts arrive for installation.
I wandered my way, kid free after what seemed an impossibly long shopping trip, and enjoyed some warm spring weather with the windows down. I made it to the dealership in plenty of time, I thought. I sat at the service door, waiting to honk as the door instructed, until I saw someone inside. I've honked before to no avail, and I wasn't in a rush.
Before too long, someone came around the building and saw me. He apologized and informed me that service has truncated hours on Saturdays, due to the pandemic. He apologized again when I kindly lamented the website had misinformation on it. He did take a peek at my Jeep, noting he wouldn't be able to make an appointment, but could at least see if it was something they could fix or would outsource anyway. They could fix it. He saw the same "if you're going to break it, this is the way to do it" that I saw, where the bolted-on bits were tore up, but the parts where they bolted on were still fine. He said they could order just the one running board, and could probably buff out the paint transfer on the fender, or order a new one if I really wanted them to or they couldn't buff it out. I have to return, though. I thanked him for taking the time, and he apologized again for the misinformation.
I made my way back home, and explained the same to the wife, and then set into other housework.
Everyone's healthy.
