Spring Break 2026 - Day 2
We spent the whole day at the pool.
Without a bigger plan, we decided to just recover from travel, see the resort, and unwind for a day.
We started with the breakfast buffet at the Water's Edge restaurant. Exactly what you expect from a hotel restaurant buffet. Eggs and bacon and such over there, omelette station over here, juices and coffee stations all over, breads and pastries along the walls. The youngest kept bringing plates piled over with choices, and then eating bites of things before going for more. I implored with him to make more trips for smaller selections, trying to reduce waste. I was fine with my simple plate and few cups of coffee; coffee is usually my breakfast anyway, so the rest was excess already.
We returned to the room and changed into pool clothes and then found a spot by the pool so the kids could swim more and the adults could relax more.
I was given a book on the Friday before we left. My eldest very eagerly shared the first in a series he'd been enjoying and thought I might like it too. I'm probably late to the game, but he shared Dungeon Crawler Carl with me (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BX5D4LC - link to the whole series at Amazon). No spoilers, since it's all spelled out in the title. In the first paragraph, almost everyone on the planet dies, and everyone else is offered a chance to survive by participating in a game that plays out like a real-life dungeon crawler, which our hero Carl joins.
I made it through the first half of the book before we ended our time at the pool.
We went to teppanyaki at the hotel restaurant Nori Asian. It was a good time, although I did end up with the seat behind the single pole from table to ceiling at our table. We were out long enough that it was well dark before we got back to the room, where everyone took turns going through the shower, some for the second time today, before settling in for some deserved air conditioning.
I'm sitting on the deck again, listening to the palms rustle, which makes me think it sounds like rain or surf or frying bacon, and I'm happy with any of those. It's delightfully warm.
