Spring Break 2026 - Day 3
We had to make a run to Walmart today.
In normal times, we're a Target family. With some of the things going on lately, we've been on a little bit of a Target boycott, although we still do go there for some necessities, so it's not a total boycott. We still haven't replaced Target with Walmart, though. There aren't any Targets in Puerto Rico, so we went to Walmart.
Well, we started out with a table-service breakfast at the hotel's Prime 787 restaurant. The missus didn't find the buffet worth the price (it was better in Kauai where the resort was all-inclusive, and the food much more regional and delicious), so we thought we could get plates with eggs or pancakes for more streamlined pricing at the other restaurant. It was almost as expensive, of course.
At breakfast I realized the boyo was wearing sweatpants again. Different than the travel pair he'd had on in the plane on Monday, though.
It turns out that despite the direction I gave, the boyo didn't pack any shorts. Not even the pair I laid out for him with instructions to add at least four more pair to the pile. Instead, he put the shorts away and added five sets of sweatpants to the suitcase. He packed the suitcase himself, and I didn't dig through it to double-check, although he verbalized that he'd put in the things I listed, which did include shorts. He did bring three sets of swimshorts, though, and since we've been at the pool for each of the last two days, he was wearing those most of the time. He'd put on long pants for the fancier dinner last night, so it didn't click then that there was a problem.
I had also developed quite the hearty sunburn. I grabbed some aloe lotion at the hotel's little shop last night, and a bucket hat of my own (I forgot mine at home, so I used the missus' yesterday), but wanted to try to find a long-sleeve sun shirt as I'd seen so many people at the hotel have (but they didn't have at the little store). The missus wanted to find shoes for the daughter so they could try to horse ride, as she'd only brought slip-on sandal things, and bug spray for some reason. The daughter wanted to buy fruit and the boyo wanted candy...ugh.
So off to Walmart we went. It was only about a 20 minute drive down the road, and once we got inside, was very much like any other Walmart. We found what we needed quickly enough, except the bug spray. We did eventually find that, too, but had to ask for help.
Starting about half-way through the Walmart trip, as each kid thought their segment of shopping was over, the "can we go back?" queries began. We did go back, and we spent the rest of the day poolside. I even donned my new long-sleeve sun shirt (with hood!) and swam for a bit.
We hit the sports bar for dinner, the Sand Trap, where it was almost burgers for everyone. I played a half-hearted game of pool with the boyo, as one side of the pool table was immediately against the backs of a row of diners, so it wasn't possible to make shots from that side. We hit the hotel's Market for the third day in a row for post-dinner snacks on our way to the room, where everyone settled in quickly to absorb some AC.
I'm again sitting on the deck, wishing I had my own lanai at home where I could enjoy the shade and weather. It's raining and snowing at home, which is why I can't do this there.
