Spring Break 2026 - Day 5
Mom hid in the room all day, everyone else went poolside.
We started with a little room service breakfast, as mom still doesn't think the other options are cost effective. I'm sure the selections of $15 breakfast foods from room service won't sit well, either.
After breakfast, the kiddos were getting restless, but mom had a bit of work to do on the computer, so I bundled up and head to the pool again. I started out with my sun shirt and settled in at the tables by the bar again.
I read through another third or so of Dungeon Crawler Carl, and just kept myself out of the sun as much as possible. I'd hoped to be able to sit in the almost poolside covered patio at the hotel, but boyo's young enough to need supervision. I considered renting a cabana, which at least has a solid roof which shades the interior most of the day, but the few that were available were the "big bed" style and not one of the few with "sofas." The sun shirt helped keep my arms and neck safe from more burning, but I couldn't shake the impression that I must have looked cold as I draped a towel over my legs when the sun crept low enough so the table wasn't providing shade.
One of the few plans, we had reservations for dinner at the Prime 787 restaurant. While breakfast had been good, dinner was absolutely an upscale experience. Since it was the daughter's birthday last week, we had made some of the events on the trip note that, and everyone happily greeted her with birthday wishes. Tonight they brought a thick slice of cake and sang Happy Birthday for her, properly embarrassing her just a little. She doesn't really like cake, though, so the rest of us pounced on on as soon as she offered to share.
After dinner we took a little stroll in the dark on the beach. There were a number of people with the same idea, spread out a bit, but everyone taking pictures with the dark ocean behind them, and the lights of San Juan across the way a bit behind that. It has been cloudy most afternoons, often with a spit of rain for a few minutes, but the clouds were fairly sparse, so stars were peeking through.
We settled in for some television and AC afterwards, and I'm back on the deck outside with aloe goo on my sunburned bits, tapping this out.
