Rain Knocks Out Mail Server
There was a big rain storm last night, and one of the storm-related surges must have hit the house and knocked off my mail server.
The server has been failing fairly regularly. Probably an old power supply problem. That is, a problem with an old power supply, not an old problem with the power supply. Well, maybe it could go either way.
I'll have to run home and turn the server back on. It always comes up with a hard drive failure (the journaling doesn't work so well, and I'm not sure why), so I'll also trigger a fsck on the hard disk, after which it will restart just fine.
I should get into the habit of checking these things before I come to work in the morning. Heck, I was at my home PC for a few minutes before I left, but I didn't think to check my e-mail on that server.
I just checked the service monitor (this server watches that, and vice-versa) and had to chuckle as I had the e-mail notification being sent...wait for it...to an account on that server! Doh!
I've corrected that and it will now send a message to my GMail account and page my cellphone.
