Ax Falleth
Sadly, no, not an April Fool's Day prank.
I recently started with a doomed project. Ahem, I mean, a project close to its finish. There were discussions on the last few work days about the lack of need for my services.
Today the ax officially fell, and I was given my "10 day notice." No, not ten business days, April 11 will be the last day I work here, I guess.
So, what does that mean? Not as much as one might think.
I technically work for a consulting company, well, as a consultant. In this case, the client for whom I'm doing the work has decided that their budget doesn't have the room for my salary. They just let another guy go on Friday, and there are rumblings on my now-five-person team that more will also follow.
Since I'm the newest member of the team, and therefore don't have so much integral involvement, they've decided to start at the bottom and work their way up. No biggie.
Since I work for a different company, this just means I won't be coming to the client's office any more.
The e-mails that have passed are all full of confidence of the next best thing, and the notices that I'm already being marketed.
I'm not worried, though. This group will pay me even on the bench, unlike others. With that overhead, of course, the onus is on them to get cracking on getting me placed somewhere. I'm doing my part by doing the best job of keeping my skills sharp and being an agreeable worker-bee...
Maybe I'll get a little break after all.
