Minor Monitor Quirk
My honking huge monitor has a small glitch in that it will occasionally not bring up a display when switching between computers on the KVM.
There are currently three, but could be as many as four, computers connected to the KVM. It will sometimes happen that switching between them will result in a blank screen instead of a switched display. I can tell from the various audio feedback that the keyboard/mouse switch is being recognized, as one machine will bing that the USB devices has been unplugged and another will bong that new USB devices have been connected.
The problem is solved with a quick trip of the power on the monitor, but that seems obnoxious.
It seems to happen more when the switch is quick. For example, as I now type using one machine, another is playing music, as it's the one connected to speakers. If I'd like to skip the song, tickle the volume, or whatever, I'll make a switch to that one, make the adjustment, and moments later switch back.
I'm guessing it's related to the different signal timings on the different machines, and that the monitor's slower to react to the different signal than the computers are reacting to the USB switching.
This is an unscientific observation, and one that I've taken to avoiding by having a VNC session open to the second machine instead of switching the monitor. A little RAM sucking, tiny CPU dinging, but I'm only typing, so I can't really tell. And while there's a little additional network traffic, I don't think anyone but me notices as I'm on my own switch in the office; and I really don't notice, either, as I'm not currently hammering the network.
Just a bother that such a dumb little thing as disrupting a signal is enough to trip the monitor into not finding one.
