Graffiti On Android
Anyone who had an old-school Palm Pilot remembers Graffiti, I'm sure. It used to take the lower third of the screen, and allowed a sort of sloppy single-stroke letter sketching for input. no soft or real keyboard in those days.
When I got my old Windows smart phones, I briefly lamentented the loss, but preferred the improved screen size and quickly grew fond of the tiny hardware keyboard, and even got comfortable with the software keyboard. But I did miss the quick input of the Graffiti.
This week, the guys who own the IP of Graffiti released a version for the Android. I'm using it right now, to enter this text.
The input area pops-up to allow use when the focus is on an input field, which is nice. It hides when the focus is not on an input field. This is great for screen use, but can cause some jumping around. While scribbling, it nicely shows what is drawn, which I don't recall on my old Palm.
I do find that there are some errors caused by my Droid and I disagreeing on whether or not I have maintained constant pressure, exacerbated by occasional mis-reads changing focus or other miscues that force me to re-focus the input.
I think the input could benefit from suggestions, as the software keyboards have. It is nice to be able to not stare at tre keys as I input.
