Eclipse Indigo Continues to Disappoint
Not Eclipse so much, as the experience of using it. I guess they kind of go hand-in-hand, but I'm not ready to blame Indigo.
New experimentation with Eclipse Indigo (3.7) brings me to the conclusion that the marketplace doesn't work. This seems to be an error on the website (http://marketplace.eclipse.org), as searching for tools on that site also fails. Additionally, since earlier experiments were successful, I'm going to withhold judgement.
I did spend a little time with my Spring project, updating a few of the supporting JAR files, but to no avail, as the project still fails. This still seems like the JDK7 changes are imapcting the other older JAR files, and perhaps most specifically Spring itself.
In another project, still using JDK6 and Tomcat v6, where the plug-ins had been added before the apparent breakdown in the marketplace, Indigo is working pretty slick. On the surface, nothing seems different, which is something to look for in a minor revision. Except for one view not opening (due to missing view provider...couldn't add it from the marketplace...), everything's been smooth as silk. The code compiles, with no new errors or warnings, and all of the formattings and keyboard shortcuts I've been using are still there.
I'm still itching to get cracking with something on JDK7, but that'll probably have to wait until more libraries are compiled and updated to note they are JDK7-ready.
