Kony2012
A new viral video is passing around. I noticed it on Facebook, but it's also being strongly pushed on Twitter (though oddly not so easily from their own website unless you mean to engage one of their 20 or 12...). The link in this blog and on the image are to their page, not something nefarious.
The video, about 30 minutes long, and mostly work appropriate, is a brief documentary outlining a movement to try to get some big government help in finding and removing a convicted war criminal. They're pushing for his arrest, but I imagine any manner of removal will be accepted, truth be told.
This particular war criminal, Joseph Kony, started out in Uganda in the 1980s, but has since moved into the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the video, and backed by Wikipedia (trust that or not), he maintains his army by kidnapping children, and reigns through terrorist tactics.
Whether to stop this particular person (and he should be stopped, don't get me wrong), or any other similarly convicted war criminal who's still out there, I'm all for making people aware that this is happening; that these people are committing atrocities and aren't being stopped. We can certainly help put a stop to it. I mean, we are in a war against terrorism, right? It just happens these guys didn't blow up one of our buildings or ships, and they don't control any oil.
Still, they're doing atrocious things, and need to be stopped.
