More Domains Passing
I've occasionally grabbed domain names that match an idea I have for a website or product or something. I'm not quite domain-parking, in that I'm not grabbing domains simply to sell them. I'm just optimistic and think that I might be able to squeeze in the time to do something more than I actually have time to complete.
In this case, I registered the domain name droidwhereismycar.com and some variations. When I got my first Android phone and tinkered with the SDK, I thought it'd be nifty and quick to throw together a quick app that would allow people to somehow mark where their cars are (or whatever they want to track). I thought the name was a bit of a pun off the movie "Dude, Where's My Car?" I figured the phone app could tap into the GPS, perhaps allow the user to snap a photo and make a note, and then use the built-in navigation features to lead them back to their cars when they were done. At the same time, the app could pop the information to a website, and the user could check that way, or track their habits or whatever. With security, of course. I thought to maybe tap into the social networking and perhaps location-minded advertising to monetize it.
Alas, time is what time is, and it escapes me as quickly as it escapes anyone else. After four years of renewing the domains and not doing anything with the app or the website. Rather than drop another fifty bucks or so on the domain registrations I'm going to let them expire.
I've done it before (and added others in the interim), and it's always a little defeating and sad. Farewell little domain names.
