Terrorsts Attack London Metro
While I can't speak for everyone, I know I speak for many when I say this to the terrorists:
You are dumbasses.
As I understand it, the "mission" of terrorists is to effect change. The "method" used to effect the change is by inducing fear, chaos, and, er, terror in those they wish to change.
They blow something up, hurt people, scare people, whatever, and the way things are done is supposed to change. I haven't heard many specific demands, save "get out of Iraq" and "leave Afghanistan."
Maybe they haven't noticed: it isn't working.
Maybe in small changes, in small enough areas, terrorism can have an effect. Overall, all that's happening is that people are getting pissed off.
After today's attacks, in London and the Middle East, dozens of otherwise innocent people are dead, hundreds are hurt, maybe thousands are incovenienced (and need to find other transportation), and possibly a very few have changed their minds and given into the idea of getting our people out of harm's way by turning tail and running from the war. Hundreds of thousands are reinforced in the resolve to eliminate the threat of terrorism. I would suspect this is the opposite of what you want.
The "crusaders" will not leave the Middle East because terrorists are blowing up a few busses and trains or by knocking down a few buildings. It won't happen by destroying police checkpoints, sports stadiums, or shopping malls, or by stopping international travel, or even by killing school children or kidnapping and beheading truck drivers and telephone repairmen.
I know the terrorists don't believe the hype; that the "invading" forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are trying to bring peace and stability to the region. I know they have a problem with "live and let live" as a social philosophy. It seems that the terrorists would have a problem with a Jewish temple on one corner, a Christianchurch on another, an Islamic mosque on the third, and a something completely different on the fourth of an intersection. This happens in America a lot. I'm sure it happens in other "free" countries, too. And it happens with violence.
For most of us there isn't enough animosity against people with different beliefs to cause violence. It doesn't even matter what the belief is; religion, sports, favorite color... In my "place of worship across the street" example, which in fact happens here in my city, the worst animosity comes from traffic, not from differences in religion.
The result of the terrorism is that people with features of those from the Middle East, or those resembling an idea of Muslim, are being treated with disrespect. It is because of the fear that they, these people with similar features, too might be terrorists. Not because of anything concrete, but instead because they may look or sound like the image of terrorists.
A few nutbags who can't get their own act together are ruining it for everyone.
Here's a key for success. I probably shouldn't try to help terrorists, but if any of them happen upon my little diatribe, I'll be astounded.
If you want to effect change, you need to embrace the methods we've put in place to allow change to happen. Vote, for starters. In the US and England, for just two of the big bad countries, our leaders are elected to power by popular vote, more or less. If you don't like the way things are going, vote 'em out of power. Use the influence of your system, the one that gets ordinarily good people to do extraordinarily bad things, to get the masses that believe the same as you to vote the same as you. Coordinate efforts to get the people you want in place, in place... Run for office, next. Since you've got the power of the vote, get people who believe and can support your cause within the system into the offices where they'll have the most direct influence.
In the meantime, give up the terrorist tactics. Blowing things up isn't going to bring the change you want.
