Dirty Mary, Crazy Lary (1974)
Caught this one on cable last weekend. Wife walked in just at the end and didn't like it.
A couple of wanna be race car drivers (Peter Fonda and Adam Roarke) rob a store and try to get away in their slightly souped up Impala with a chick (Susan George) one of them picked up the night before. What's not to like?
Classic car chase movie with all of the cliche dumb cops chasing outwitting crooks, and a little sassy tramp tossed in. Made in the same year as Easy Rider, it's got that same rough edge of dialog, interaction, and cinematography. Clueless rebels who can't make it the straight way, and can't make it the crooked way either.
The crooks aren't particularly clever, they just have a plan.
The cops aren't particularly inept, they just don't know the plan.
Long before the days of rampant wireless communication, I guess, the police scanner plays as much a part in the crook's get away as any performance driving or tuning their car has. They use the radio to know where the roadblocks and roving patrols are, and when the cops are on the move and to where.
The radio also becomes their downfall as they're routed along a path by the quick-witted sheriff (Vic Morrow), and end up running into a train.
Big explosion, instantly roll end-credits.
Take that for closure!
