Hayfever Blows
Pun intended.
Friday I am smacked with a terrible sinus inflammation due to breathing. I'd taken my daily dose of antihistamine and decongestant, and even an extra dose of decongestant and headache pain reliever, but still the head pounded. I made it to work late, but in time for the meeting scheduled earlier in the week. I toughed it out for just another hour before giving in and racing home.
After a few hours of nap, I realized the pressure was waning, but not fast enough. As our friends arrived to go to the Vikings/Chargers game, I realized I had to bow out. Whatever state of pain management I could muster in my living room, I knew it'd be incomparable to what would be required at the Metrodome. It sucked worse to bow out, as the wife had already had to cancel because she'd made a scheduling conflict for herself. I hated the implication that I only hung out with these friends when she was around, but I hated the pounding inside my skull more.
Saturday was filled with more lounging about. The swelling seemed to have stopped, and the aches outside my skull had settled and all but disappeared. My head felt fine unless I moved quickly or some loud noise happened, like when the dogs started barking because clouds were in the sky... It seemed to me that if I kept the snot in my sinuses from swilling around that all would be well.
Sunday was better enough that I dared to mow the lawn and pull some weeds. Today, better still enough that I motorcycled in. I think the first wave has passed.
The next rainstorm isn't currently on the Weather Channel's forecast, but I expect Katrina to stir up changes and cause trouble. Bitch.
