Rumor of Suicide Bomber Kills Hundreds in Iraq
I just saw this bit in the news.
Not only have the cowardly insurgents taken to killing innocent people with their bombings, now the innocent people are running so scared from rumors of bombs that they're trampling each other to death in the process.
I realize I'm not there, and I'd probably try to get out of the way, too. I'd like to think I wouldn't do it at the cost of knocking someone down and stomping on them, or stomping on someone who's already fallen. I'm sure none of them intended to do this either. While it may seem that I'm judging the crowd for their action, that's not my intent.
What I mean to point out is that it's apparently the case that people are so afraid of the insurgents that there doesn't even need to be a bomb, just the rumored threat of one. This means there isn't enough confidence in the security forces in Iraq, whether Iraqi or coalition forces, to make the threat of bombing small enough to avoid a mad rush.
Not only that, but this tragedy has caused more deaths (and probably injuries) than some of the bombs that have gone off. Does this mean that the insurgents can just run around and scream "bomb" for a while?
Score one for the insurgents.
