Mambo Not Cutting It
I set up a little Mambo site, but it's not intuitive, and the documentation is sparse.
I know it's all the rave, and lots of people (some of whom are probably smarter than me) have it all worked out, but I can't see how to direct content creation to any specific bit.
The Mambo site has some useless entries, and some of the defaults. I tried finding a theme that didn't make the editor all wonky, but it either doesn't like Firefox or it doesn't like Firefox on LINUX. When content is added, it's always "static," and if you don't choose to include it on the front page, it isn't included anywhere. The "publish" or not indicator is a radio button labeled "State" with the options of "yes" or "no," which took me a bit to figure out.
There's a link on the side for a blog, but I can't make an entry there. There's supposed to be a way to make forum entries, but I can't find it. And the RSS feed thing still bugs me; you have to drill through the list instead of having the RSS information end up as "entries" in one of the panels.
I know it's probably a bigger undertaking than I think, and it'll probably be the case that it'll only suit me and people who think like me, but I think I'm gonna give writing a J2EE "blog/forum/wiki content manager with plug-ins" application a shot.
