VIkings Defeat Saints
While not astounding, it's still a 33-16 victory.
As mentioned before, I'm not a huge football fan. I like watching the game, hanging out with friends, and blathering about the experiences later. Listening to the radio, you'd expect that me and ten other strangers off the street stand a chance of beating the Saints.
The game started with some action leaning in the Vikings favor. The Saints won the coin-toss and decided to receive the opening kick-off. Their kick-return guy caught the ball after our impressive kicker planted it very near their end zone. During the tackle, he fumbled the ball on the Vikings 24-yard line, which the Vikings recovered. The Vikings capitalized on the turn over, and one quick pass later they scored a touchdown. Like 10-seconds of game time had passed. The Saints' coach challenged and lost; the touchdown stood.
The crowd was excited, but at the same time we were terrified that it was a freak occurrence. Even in the first two dismal games, the Vikings had made some exciting plays. This was, sadly, the first touchdown pass of the season; we've been spoiled and find that four or five touchdown passes and runs in a game are almost expected.
The Vikings defense held the Saints nearly scoreless for the entire first half. The offense trounced them with 24 points, allowing only the one touchdown after the two-minute warning. The Saints failed a two-point try, so the half ended at 24-6.
In typical Viking fashion, the third-quarter was low-scoring, with the Saints getting the only three-points for the quarter.
A little revitalized in the fourth, both teams scored a couple times to bring us to the final; Vikings 33, Saints 16.
The play of the game wasn't much more exciting than my description thus far. The fans in our section were almost to a person yawning and stretching by the end of the game, and not from the exhaustion of cheering our team to the first victory of the season.
