Zawahiri Letter
The Zawahiri Letter to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq has been released.
I read the first bit, and will read the rest later.
I allow that some of the grammar is probably due to translation; probably some direct translation is preferred to interpreted context. Still, these guys blather worse than my 16-year old girl child.
That aside, some first impressions.
There's some blessing, some thanks for sticking with the cause, some cursory news from headquarters. Then there's the plan. The first part of the plan is laid out entirely in one sentence.
The first stage: Expel the Americans from Iraq.
Nice thought, but it ain't gonna happen.
Let's pretend for a minute that the bad guys lay low, as could be inferred from some of the document's text, and the new Iraqi leadership is lulled into a false sense of security. Let's say while that happens, the Iraqi police and military step up and are perceived to have security under control. Let's also blindly believe that there's a peace of sorts with the neighboring countries, including Israel and Iran. We'll say for the purpose of this discussion that the people of Iraq feel at ease, and the world believes it, too.
So the Americans leave. Or at least, most of them do. One thing to remember is that we've still got bases in every country we've ever "conquered." Your word, not mine. So, like the US base on Okinawa, Japan, we've retracted to just a few thousand soldiers on land, and perhaps even a lesser Navy presence in the Gulf. For the sake of discussion.
Let's even pretend this happens fast, so that nobody forgets.
Then what, step two of the Zawahiri plan? Insurgency rises against the sitting "puppet" government of Iraq.
How long do you dumbasses think it would take for the same swarm of American military to arrive to kick the crap out of you once more? I don't recall, did it take a whole month to overthrow the government in Afghanistan? Sure, there's still fighting, but nothing like any of us feared. Yeah, there's still a strong insurgency in Iraq, which is making Afghanistan look peaceful by comparison, but it's Iraqis and Muslims bearing the brunt of it, not American soldiers.
I'm not trying to discount any lives lost. Never get that idea. I'm merely trying to express in writing the head-shaking disgust I have for the insurgency that kills the people it's trying to liberate from the oppression of the American occupation. A couple thousand Americans are killed, and perhaps tens of thousands wounded because of these dumbasses. Hundreds of thousands of their own are dead. Some killed by Americans, perhaps even wrongly, but most killed by the terrorists.
Get a clue.
