Snow Makes Permanent Twighlight
It snowed all day yesterday, and after dark I noticed that it, well, wasn't dark.
A few days ago I was in sunny California, enjoying the mid-seventies. Today it's windy and twenty degrees. Brr.
Nothing eventful today, just the same-old. But I did have a subtle reminder of one of the wonders of winter here in the Northland. When the ground is covered in snow, especially when including the streets and sidewalks, it doesn't really get dark. Last night was especially true because of the full moon, but even with just the street lights at the end of the block and the occasional porch lamp, the reflection of ambient light in the city between the clouds and ground cover of snow makes a subtle bluish hue on everything, making it easy to see all the way down the street.
It's one of the few things I guess I do like about winter. If the night is right, and the temperature isn't freezing anything, winter can be OK.
