BestBuy Bullies
We went for an adjustment, but got the run-around instead.
During the holidays hopping spree we got something at BestBuy that we later noticed they had on sale. We trekked over there to have our purchase adjusted, as is laid out in their price guarantee. Essentially the guarantee outlines that if you notice a better price within thirty-days of the purchase (14-days for some things, but not ours) that they'll adjust the price to the new one. The price was just about cut in half, so it was significant enough to give it a whirl, especially since we'd be driving by anyway.
It turns out that the sale ended yesterday, so they wouldn't honor the guarantee and adjust our price. We pointed out that the price alteration was within the thirty days, and that the guarantee as outlined on the big sign over the fella's head or on the website said nothing about the timeline of the price change, other than the thirty-day window of opportunity. He pointed out logically that if we tried to return the merchandise today and re-purchase it that we wouldn't be able to receive the sale price, so that's why he couldn't honor it. Essentially it boiled down to lack of access to the data. We discussed this with the manager (who's about a year older than my kid--does that make me old?), who pulled an obscure "current ad" reference when discussing the competitive guarantee, and he likewise wouldn't budge.
Dismayed and frustrated, we left, pledging to avoid shopping there in the future. We don't shop there often as it is, but sometimes it's the only place to get the selection desired. There is a Target, Circuit City, and CompUSA nearby, so we have some other alternatives for much of their merchandise; oh, and the freaking huge mall across the street.
I'll tap a note to the customer service as indicated on their website, and maybe someone with more customer service savvy can either explain it in an acceptable manner, or resolve the issue by giving me some cash back. That's all I ask; don't tell me I don't get it (I'm pretty smart), but make sure you can point it out politely.
