Swiped an LCD Monitor at Work
No, not swiped one from work...
There's a cubicle right over the wall from mine that has been empty for as long as I can remember it. In the cubicle, gathering dust, is a fairly nice 17" LCD monitor. I decided yesterday that I'd move it to my cubicle.
As soon as I got to work this morning I booted the PC to which it was attached in an attempt to ensure that it could handle the resolution at which I'm currently working. At the office I'm using 1280x1024, which is adequate, but not quite the 1680x1050 I'm used to at home, or the 1600x1200 I was using at home before I got my new slick LCD there.
The PC booted in what looked like 1024x768, but with some stretching. Windows wouldn't let me log in, so I rebooted with a live Ubuntu CD I have. It initally wouldn't let me select any resolution, but when booted, it chose 1280x1024.
Perfect!
I did a quick swap, moving the LCD first to my cube, then my monitor to the other. A quick dusting of my desk and it's all in place.
Of course, as I was finishing up, some of the other guys on my team came to see what I was up to. They all commented that they'd thought the same thing, but didn't have the guts to do it. Then one of 'em swapped his CRT for one in another empty cube; his had a curved front and the unused one was at least flat glass.
