The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
This horrid movie failed to live up to the expectations we started with, and left us wondering what everyone else saw in it.
The base story is that Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) is an underwater documentary film maker who's buddy is killed by a mysterous shark, and he's seeking revenge. Throw in the fact that his popularity is waning, his marriage is failing, and a man claiming to possibly be his son appears to bond, and there's plenty of potential for good stuff.
All of it falls short, though. Plenty of plot devices are introduced and dropped. It was created by and compared to The Royal Tenenbaums, but unlike that film, this one failed to develop and deliver. It made me actually sad that it sucked so much, 'cause I like Owen Wilson (one of the creators and actors) and most of the rest of the cast.
