I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007)
I found the movie a little more obnoxious than entertaining. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007) tries to show a couple of guys making a desperate move for a good reason, and it comes close.
The level of "flaming homo" stereotypes was unnecessary and led me to groan and shake my head at more gags than those at which I laughed. I could buy either of the characters (or actors, for that matter) as gay without needing to resort to so many tasteless stereotypes. Not every homosexual man turns into a character from "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" when expressing his homosexuality. I thought the postman and Ving Rhames (at moments, but not overall) did better, although they, too sunk to off-color depths. Chuck (Sandler) hit it on the head a few times when he pointed out that just 'cause he's gay doesn't mean he's out to molest everyone. The film hit fairly on the typical discomfort the firemen felt when they learned of their comrades' preference, and even fell back in when they had their group epiphany (brought on by James' rant) that these were the same guys they'd always known.
If you can get by the groaner stereotypes and shallow shields (and the incredulous premise that one can only change beneficiaries on an insurance policy with certain life events, or that the insurance wouldn't perhaps default to the offspring if the spouse has also passed...), then the bulk of the movie is an acceptable peek into the fellowship of a pair of friends trying to get through a difficult situation with tremendous obstacles.
