Movie: The Box
We went to see the movie "The Box." It's a remake of an original Twilight Zone episode, which was based on a short story "Button, Button" (apparently first published in Playboy) by Richard Matheson, the guy who brought us "I Am Legend." No spoilers in the following brief discussion.
A stranger makes an offer of money (or nothing) in exchange for pressing a button, the penalty of which is that someone "unknown to you" will die. The button, of course, is pressed (or the movie would be pretty short), and the movie winds through a few days of odd events that follow as the characters deal with the consequences of their decision.
Weird quirks in the dialogue, allusions to things never followed through, and a few almost unreasonable character interactions, with a series of pretty predictable scenes made it a little less than I'd hoped it would be. There were quite a few points where I thought an interesting twist had developed, but they all dropped-off or untwisted.
Still a good watch at a matinée-level recommendation, or maybe when it hits cable, DVD, or Netflix.
