Garage Loses Power
After pulling the Valkyrie out of the garage, I tapped the remote to draw the door shut. As sometimes happens, nothing happened. I tried agan, noticing the strong and steady light on the remote. The wife then noticed that the light on the opener was off. We'd just minutes before opened the door to get the bike out.
She hadn't yet hopped on the bike, so she went to the button in the garage to close it that way. Maybe we had been out there long enough for the light to go off and maybe the remote wasn't sending the right signals. The button failed, too.
We were twenty-five minutes away from the Twins game (my first in a few weeks), so I didn't want to dork with the door much. I paused and thought there was a conspicious lack of air conditioner noise, and thought maybe we got the bike out just before a little outage hit.
I pulled the lever, freeing the door from the opener and pulled it shut the old-fashioned way. We went to the game (Twins won 2-8 over the Yankees) and came home.
Pulling into the alley, it was clear that the neighborhood had power. Lights glowed and air conditioners hummed. Even the few persistent lights in our house were on.
Remembering the door was unlatched, I didn't even tamper with the remote. We walked around the garage, but once inside, couldn't turn the light on. I suspected maybe a tripped circuit in the house.
The circuit box showed no tripped circuits, so I toggled the one for the garage off and back on. Returning to the garage showed still no power.
I pulled the door open, moved the bike back inside, knowing at least that would be normal. I remembered one of the outlets has a GFI. It shouldn't be the case that would affect the rest of the garage, but thought to check. It happens to be the outlet tucked behind a small mountain of stuff, so I started finding a path. I got about half way in and the light turned on; the garage was again with electricity.
I reconnected the door, let the motor close it, and turned the lights off. I still have a mystery, but at least the door is closed with the Valkyrie inside.
