Yankees Avoid Twins Victory with Help from Rain
On Tuesday the Twins pulled off a not-often-seen victory over the Yankees in the Bronx. After lagging behind for seven innings, they tied it up with 4 runs in the top of the eighth with a couple of very exciting plays. They then managed to hold off a Yankee attack and pull ahead with another run in the top of the tenth inning. Closer Joe Nathan, who took last year off for surgery on his elbow, held off the Yankees, eventually striking-out Derek Jeter for a come-from-behind Twins win!
Wednesday's game was rained-out, and has been postponed until later in the season. The Yankees host the Twins today (in just a few minutes, from the writing of this post), but won't be playing a double-header after as both teams need to travel for baseball tomorrow, the Twins to their home opener. The home-opener is probably the bigger consideration.
This strikes me a little odd as they'll have to travel to New York for the make-up game, and then back to wherever to play the regularly scheduled game. Every Twins fan will cry foul if it's the case that only the Twins have to travel to New York, as would be the case if the Yankees were already at home the day before.
The press release with the announcement says that the "rescheduled game will likely take place at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 8 or Sept. 15, as that's when both clubs share a common off-day." On the 8th, the Twins would be traveling from Boston, while on the 15th, they'd be travelling from Minnesota. New York, on the other hand, is at home on the 7th, hosting the Orioles, while on the 15th they'd be traveling from Seatle. In both cases, both teams would be traveling the day after.
