Movie: The Recall (2017)
I was drawn to this film by Wesley Snipes in the preview. He's in the movie, sure, and plays a critical role, but the movie is really about a bunch of high school or college kids, and his role is a bit weird. He does it well, but I think they tried to add some suspense and tension at the expense of execution.
The basic synopsis is that a group of kids go on a vacation to a secluded cottage in the woods. While there, and without their knowledge, an alien invasion starts elsewhere. This is a little reminiscent of Rim of the World, where some kids away at summer camp are unaware of an alien invasion until one of them crashes at their camp.
These kids have to deal with Wesley Snipes, who they meet in a less-friendly confrontation on their way to the cabin, and then encounter, and believe is responsible for their weird behaviors. Plus they invade his space, and just make things worse.
There are some quirky disbelief moments, like that all of these kids could be that disconnected. Or that they'd really get that involved with a skilled mountain hermit type.
It's well shot, the story wanes in and out of necessary and believable. In the end, it's a fine alien invasion movie, but there are better ones, like Rim of the World.
