Rack-mounting Equipment
Yesterday I received the last of the shelves I think I need to put the equipment on my rack.
I've got some thin, side "shelves" for the servers, and now two more full-width, half-depth shelves for holding the things that aren't rack-ready.
Today I'm going to do some planning and mount the shelves in the right spots to take all the servers. Maybe on Wednesday I'll shut it all down and move it around.
I've got two servers intended for rack mounting, but without proper rail kits. They'll be set into the thin rails.
I have two ATX cases that I'll stand on the bottom of the rack. There's a hole in the bottom that might give me trouble, so I might have to use one of the pairs of half-depth shelves I got.
I have four UPSs that I planned to put on one of the new shelves. I've vacillated over putting them on the bottom, as they can be situated around the hole, and use the shelves for the ATX cases.
We'll see how that goes.
I've got some the network gear which can sit atop the rack servers, as they don't weigh much each, and are too small to mount.
There will be some downtime, and I need to get all the right ports plugged into the right devices. And I need to be sure not to drop any of the heavy things as I try to fit them into their spots.
