Open Water (2004)
It was a touch unrealistic that the charter boat would only have one charter in the day, or that they'd leave the pile of wet gear to be cleaned the next day, or that no one would realize they weren't aboard. The trip took an hour out, and having been on tours of about that size, you at least recognize when a member of the party isn't about, even the introverts.
I realize this was vital to get the story to flow. If they were found to be missing sooner, it still would have been possible for the story to continue as it did; perhaps the realization would have happened late enough that they still would have drifted, or perhaps the laid-back crew wouldn't actually return to the precise same spot, far enough away to not see them. In the end, then, that bit is irrelevant.
Definately not a hollywood ending, but I thought tastefully realistic. Abruptly, there are no survivors.
He gets nipped and apparently bleeds out. As she accepts that he's dead, she gives him a little push and they drift apart. Very shortly after, he's tugged beneath the surface to not be seen again.
She drifts for a bit longer, and then sees the apparent frenzy activity at the surface. Glimpses beneath the water, and we see that a possibly unsurvivable amount of larger sharks has been drawn to her, probably because of his bit leg. She seems to realize the perilous danger she's in, so she releases her gear and submerges. We watch for a long while as her BCD and tank bob, and we realize she's chosen to drown rather than risk being torn apart.
End credits.
A bit of shark gutting folows, and the camera we saw grabbed from the water earlier is pulled from its stomach. I suppose this is to provide us with validation of the "based on a true story" that the movie opened with.
