Falcons Dominate Vikings
In a dismal 10-30 loss, the Vikings are showing nothing impressive.
The wife and I agree, the two most consistently good players we have are our kickers.
Again, the score doesn't begin to show how unbalanced the game was. The Vikings were shut-out until almost half-way through the fourth quarter, when a long-distance kick and a last-chance pass got a couple scores on the board.
Vick, the Falcon's quarterback, was injured during the second quarter; an apparent knee-sprain. The announcers kept noting his return as "unlikely," but I would internally reply "you mean unnecessary."
The game was a sad state of poor execution, largely by the Viking's offensive line. Two rookies in, which isn't an excuse in itself, allowed the pocket to collapse far too fast, far too often. The running game was barely established, but was never a threat. There weren't any significant caught passes until too late in the game, and even then, the most significant were interceptions.
It's hard to pin this on coaching except when you allow that the training of the linemen is the responsibility of the coaches. The conditioning or training and execution of maneuvers is overseen by the coaching staff, and they're failing to do that right. I know the players are capable, but they're not acting as a squad, just a bunch of guys.
I'm glad they have a bye next week. They need the practice.
