Ubuntu 5.10 Released Today
Ubuntu has released Breezy Badger.
Of course it happens the day after I have my PC trouble and start using the release candidate. I'm not at all put out, just scoffing at my timing. I buy CDs by the hundreds, so they cost less than floppies. Thankfully I didn't get a chance to burn the DVD of the RC I downloaded... Coincidentally, the machine that's having the trouble is the one with the DVD burner, and I hadn't quite gotten the Live CD configured with the burner software already on my SuSE installation.
The plan is coming to me. I'll put the Ubuntu 5.10 release in the old SuSE 32-bit partition still on the AMD64's HDD. The /home partition will still be in place, and the SuSE 64-bit / partition will be unmodified. Since Ubuntu works in fair resolution, and I had such a hard time getting SuSE to behave, I'll use that configuration until my card is returned (I requested an RMA, but have not heard back from PNY yet). Perhaps I'll tinker with SuSE to see if I can get it to work with the built-in video, but no pain if I don't get it to behave.
When I get the GeForce back, I'll reassess based on my Ubuntu experience. I like Ubuntu, and expect I'll have a hard time choosing. SuSE uses KDE, which I like, while the default Ubunutu uses Gnome, which I like, but just a little less. It's a point of familiarity, not anything deeper.
