Twins Sweep Indians
The division is upside-down, based on my home-team fandom and the pundits' predictions. The Twins were rained-out on Friday, but won the other two games against the Indians this weekend, closing the gap to just four games. Even better, the White Sox are on a bit of a losing streak, putting them more than a game behind the Twins! I mean, not better for the Sox, but the Twins are not in last place any more.
Friday's game was rained-out, right after we got settled into the park and grabbed some sandwiches. We try to get there early so we can get a scorecard and feed first, so we don't miss the pre-game antics or have to wander during the game. We did ask around a little bit if a delay or postponement was in the works, but none of the guest services people knew anything more than the fans did. We grabbed a couple of Murray's steak sandwiches and sodas and sat in our seats to watch the rain fall on the tarp. A few bites in, the announcer told us the game was postponed, and the jumbotron confirmed.
We salvaged the night by meeting some friends who were also going to be at the game (in the next section, it turns out), but who hadn't made it to the park yet. We warned 'em and they turned off at a Chili's nearby. Although we'd eaten, we joined 'em for some post-dinner instead-of-game snacks and chuckles.
The Twins clubbed the Indians 3-10 on yesterday, and squeaked out a 3-4 win this afternoon. Yesterday we were on the road (rearranging furniture across the state, and visiting with the grandkid (and kid, too, sure...), and eventually my mom), and timing was such that I only caught the end of the 8th and top of the 9th. Today we caught the game on the tube. Both made me miss my visit to the park that much more.
No news about when the TBD game will be played yet.
Both the Twins and Indians have tomorrow off, which makes me wonder why they didn't just postpone Friday's game to Monday, instead of later in the season when the Indians visit again in July or September. The Twins are staying home to start a series with the Rays, while the Indans are returning home to face the Royals. While surely enjoyed by both teams, the day off certainly affects the Indians more as they'd have to travel after, but if they play in July, they'll have to make a double-header, as the Twins are boxed in the middle of an 11-game homestand, and if they play in September, while they both have an off-day on the 19th, they both travel the next day anyway.
If they don't tack it onto one of those Indians visits, it'll be some other random day off they both happen to have. The Twins still owe a game to the Yankees, since they were rained out there a couple weeks ago. They don't play at Yankee stadium again, so that'll be a random day-off lost, with extra travel too. Probably not for the Yankees, though; they'll no doubt tack the game onto a homestand they already have.
I'm not sure how they decide how to postpone, but you'd have thought someone would say, "you're off Monday, too? How about we pick this up then?" Seems like the easiest to me...or maybe I just selfishly want my baseball game!
